Special camp gets massive response-Administration registers 27890 new voters for SGPC polls

Jalandhar: The special camps organized by the district administration in every Gurdwara of Jalandhar on January 14 and 17 have evoked a massive response with as many as 27890 eligible people registered as new voters, to exercising their franchise in upcoming SGPC polls.

   In a meeting with officials on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that special camps were organized at all Gurdwaras where all patwaris of concerned areas were present and received registration forms.

    He said that 10205 and 17685 voter registration forms were submitted on January 14 and 17 respectively. He said that the district had six SGPC constituencies including Phillaur, Nakodar, Shahkot, Adampur, Jalandhar city, and Kartarpur. He said that the administration had started the 15-day special drive on January 10 to enhance the enrollment of voters. He said that more camps would be organized in the coming days to facilitate the eligible voters.

    The Deputy Commissioner said that the enough number of voter enrollment forms had been given to the Patwaris. He added that forms can also be downloaded from Jalandhar.nic.in.

    He told all Block Development and Panchayats Officers (BDPOs) to ensure public announcements in all villages of the district so that a maximum number of people can register as voters for SGPC elections.

    He also sought support from representatives of Sikh organizations in sensitization of the people regarding registration as voters.
