Two deputy superintendents of Punjab jail arrested for taking bribe online

Chandigarh: Two deputy superintendents of Central Jail, Gagandeep Sharma and Satnam Singh, have been arrested for allegedly supplying drugs and mobile phones to prisoners in exchange for bribes, facilitated through UPI transactions in Ludhiana.

The officers, previously in the news for confiscating mobile phones and prohibited items from inmates, were apprehended on Monday.

The arrest followed a case registered by the administration 19 days ago, triggered by inmates posting a video of a birthday party on social media.

Authorities are now investigating the accused duo for potential links to the mobile used in the party, revealing a history of their prolonged involvement in illicit activities in collaboration with prisoners.
