On day 2, farmers march to Delhi; massive traffic jams

New Delhi: Today marks the second day of the farmers’ Delhi Chalo March, with farmers endeavoring to march to Delhi once more. Amidst this scenario, police have initiated firing tear gas shells at the farmers since early morning.

Given the gravity of the situation, Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in substantial numbers. Notably, a significant commotion unfolded at the Singhu border yesterday.

Throughout the night, protesting farmers persisted in encircling the border, while the police continued to discharge tear gas shells. Yesterday, police resorted to firing tear gas shells to disperse the agitated farmers, resulting in a confrontation wherein several individuals, including a DSP, sustained injuries.

Delhi Police stands vigilantly at the border, with heightened security measures in place to thwart the protesters. Notably, a police barricade spans from the air to the ground in Delhi, with police and paramilitary personnel stationed at the Singhu border.

Police have strategically positioned buses to impede the farmers’ progress, particularly after the farmers breached the initial cordon yesterday.

Late-night discussions between the government and the farmers remained inconclusive. The farmers’ plan entails first congregating at the border near Delhi and subsequently deliberating on their future course of action.

While the government asserts that discussions will persist, the farmers are also prepared for further negotiations.
