New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has sparked a political controversy after referring to Generation Z protesters demonstrating at Jantar Mantar as “cockroaches” and “Generation Gutter” in a series of social media posts.
Her remarks triggered sharp criticism from opposition parties, with leaders from the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) condemning the comments and accusing the BJP MP of insulting young protesters.
Reacting to viral videos and reels of the ongoing demonstrations, Ranaut wrote that watching the clips made her feel “like vomiting.” She also criticised the language used by some protesters, questioning their upbringing and describing their conduct as “ugly.”
In another post, she continued her criticism by writing that the protesters called themselves “cockroaches” and behaved like them, alleging that they were only spreading “garbage and filth” before the world.
Ranaut also coined the term “Generation Gutter” while criticising what she described as the influence of Western culture on Indian youth. She further alleged that many of the protesters were poor students, depended on their parents for financial support and were unwilling to take up household responsibilities.
The remarks drew widespread criticism on social media, with many users accusing the BJP MP of making insensitive comments about students participating in the protest movement.
Several users also questioned Ranaut’s silence during the alleged NEET paper leak controversy and reports of student suicides, saying she had chosen to speak only after students launched protests.
