New Delhi/Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said she was forced to leave her country but had never been separated from its people. She also alleged that Bangladesh was facing an atmosphere of fear, insecurity and extremism.
Addressing a virtual press conference, Hasina claimed that the July-August 2024 protests were not a peaceful student movement. She alleged that organised groups had transformed the demonstrations into a violent political campaign.
She further claimed that fear had spread across homes, workplaces and educational institutions, saying, “This is not the Bangladesh we built.”
Hasina alleged that the country continues to face fear, extremism, economic hardship and insecurity.
Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, also addressed the press conference and alleged that political killings had effectively been legitimised in Bangladesh since August 2024.
Joy further claimed that Bangladesh had become a “failed state” with a collapse of law and order. He also alleged that India’s biggest concern should be that Bangladesh had become “another Pakistan” on its eastern border.
