Chandigarh: Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh faced a sharp response from the Punjab Police after sharing a video on X showing two young men apparently under the influence of drugs and questioning the state government over the situation in Punjab.
Sharing the video, Harbhajan Singh expressed concern over the condition of Punjab and its youth, saying that the state, once known for courage and resilience, was now facing a serious drug problem. He appealed to governments to take steps to protect Punjab’s younger generation.
The video quickly went viral on social media, with several users criticising the Punjab government and police over the alleged spread of drugs in the state.
Punjab Police says video is from Rajasthan
Following the controversy, Punjab Police said it had verified the video and found that it was not from Punjab but from Sri Ganganagar in neighbouring Rajasthan.
In a response tagging Harbhajan Singh, the police said that adding a Punjabi audio track to a video does not make the incident one that occurred in Punjab. It urged social media users to verify the location and facts before sharing content or tagging the Punjab Police.
The police also advised users to exercise caution while sharing potentially misleading material on social media.
The clarification triggered further reactions online, with some users accusing Harbhajan Singh of sharing unverified information and allegedly damaging Punjab’s image for political purposes.
