New Delhi: The three-day nationwide strike by employees of public sector banks, scheduled to begin on Monday over demands including a five-day working week and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), has been postponed.
The decision followed an assurance from the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) to constitute a committee to consider the demands raised by bank unions. Following the assurance, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) decided to defer the strike.
The UFBU said the IBA and the unions would immediately constitute a high-level committee to examine the demands of bank employees. The committee will hold discussions with all stakeholders and work towards an appropriate resolution of the issues.
In a statement, the forum said it had decided to defer the strike for the time being keeping the convenience of the public in mind.
With the strike postponed, bank branches are expected to function normally on Monday.
