Supreme Court bars coercive action by CBI against Punjab officials, grants relief to CM’s OSD

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted interim relief to the Punjab government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s officer on special duty (OSD), Rajbir Singh Ghuman, directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) not to take coercive action against those concerned in the case.

The court issued a notice to the CBI and sought its response to the petition filed by the Punjab government. The order allows Ghuman and other individuals concerned to participate in the investigation while protecting them from arrest or other coercive measures at this stage.

However, the Supreme Court declined the state government’s request to stay the CBI investigation itself.

Punjab Advocate General Maninderjit Singh Bedi confirmed the development, saying the court had provided relief against coercive action but had not halted the probe.

The proceedings concern the CBI investigation involving Ghuman and others. The agency will now have to respond to the notice issued by the Supreme Court, while the investigation remains ongoing.
