Chandigarh: Days after stepping down as Punjab Congress president, Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday said he would continue to stand firmly with Rahul Gandhi even if Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot denied him a ticket for the next assembly elections.
Warring acknowledged that several party leaders had opposed him during his tenure as state Congress chief and said such opposition could continue in the future. His remarks were seen as a response to critics within the Punjab Congress, although he maintained that he was not against anyone.
He also pledged full support to newly appointed Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh, who took charge at the Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh on Sunday.
Pilot and several other senior Congress leaders attended the event, which also saw the party leadership come together as Pargat Singh formally assumed his new role.
Warring’s statement signals his intention to remain aligned with the party’s central leadership while supporting the new state president, despite internal differences within the Punjab Congress.
