Sonia Gandhi’s dream of Rahul becoming PM will never be fulfilled, says Amit Shah

Chandigarh: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying the dream of Sonia Gandhi seeing her son become the Prime Minister would never be fulfilled. He also claimed that the BJP-led NDA would form the next government in Punjab and pledged to make the state and the rest of the country drug-free by December 31, 2029.

Shah was addressing a gathering in Chandigarh after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹258 crore. He began his speech with the religious slogans “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal”.

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Shah said the Congress leader was now aspiring to become Prime Minister through what he described as a “mock Parliament”. He told Gandhi that if he wanted to become Prime Minister, he could remain in the mock Parliament throughout his life, but his turn would never come.

Shah targets Congress over 1984 anti-Sikh riots

The home minister also accused the Congress of failing to protect Sikhs during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, referring to the violence in Delhi on November 1 that year.

He said thousands of innocent Sikhs were killed, forcing many families to leave their homes, while numerous women were widowed.

Shah accused Rahul Gandhi of hurting the sentiments of the victims by addressing the INDIA bloc rally in Delhi on the anniversary of the violence. He alleged that the Congress had deliberately chosen November 1 for the event despite appeals from the BJP to reschedule it.

He said people in Punjab would not forgive the Congress for holding the rally on the anniversary of the riots.

Shah’s remarks came as the INDIA bloc held its ‘Chalo Delhi’ rally at Ramlila Maidan against alleged electoral irregularities and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
