Trump blames Biden’s immigration policy after Indian-origin motel manager killed in Dallas

Washington: US president Donald Trump has condemned President Joe Biden’s immigration policy following the killing of an Indian-origin motel manager in Dallas, Texas.

Chandramouli “Bob” Nagamalaiah, 50, a native of Karnataka, was stabbed to death on September 10 at the Downtown Suites Motel, where he lived and worked with his family. The attack, carried out in front of his wife and 18-year-old son, has left the Indian-American community in shock.

Police have charged Yordanis Cobos Martinez, 37, an undocumented Cuban immigrant with a criminal record, with first-degree murder. US immigration officials confirmed that Martinez had previously been detained but was released in January 2025 after Cuba refused to accept his extradition.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the accused as an “illegal alien” who should have been expelled from the country, blaming Biden’s “soft” immigration policies. “The soft spot on these illegal immigrants is over,” Trump wrote.

Nagamalaiah’s funeral was held on September 13 in Flower Mound, Texas, with family and close friends in attendance. A fundraiser to support his family has raised more than $321,000 so far.

The killing has reignited debate over immigration enforcement and the challenges faced by US authorities in deporting foreign nationals when their countries of origin refuse to take them back.
