Chandigarh: Punjabi singer Prem Dhillon, known for hit tracks such as Old School and Copyright, has landed in controversy after a video shared by him triggered allegations of promoting narcotics.
In the video, which Dhillon posted on his social media accounts, he is seen visiting a Defender car showroom in Chandigarh along with his associates. At one point, Dhillon is seen holding a packet containing a black-coloured substance, which an advocate has claimed resembles opium.
The advocate has filed a complaint with the Chandigarh Police, alleging that the singer was promoting opium through the video. He also claimed to have raised the matter with the Director General of Police (DGP), seeking registration of an FIR against Dhillon and his arrest.
The complainant warned that if no action is taken within 24 hours, he would move the Punjab and Haryana High Court by filing a petition in the matter.
According to the complaint, the video shows Dhillon seated on a sofa inside the showroom while holding a packet containing a substance that the advocate alleges to be opium. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the nature of the substance.
As of now, Prem Dhillon has not issued any clarification or response to the allegations. Police officials have also not released any statement on whether a case has been registered or if an inquiry has been initiated.
