Mumbai: Droupadi Murmu conferred the country’s second-highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan, posthumously on veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra during a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The prestigious award was received by actor and wife Hema Malini on his behalf. Dharmendra was selected for the honour in recognition of his immense contribution to Indian cinema and his remarkable acting career spanning several decades.
During the ceremony, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was also honoured with the Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian cricket.
President Murmu further presented the Padma Vibhushan to renowned violinist N. Rajam for her outstanding contribution to the field of music. Her work in Indian classical music has earned widespread acclaim across the country.
Several distinguished personalities from different fields were also honoured with the Padma Bhushan. Among them were former Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for his public and political service, and veteran banker Uday Kotak for his contribution to the banking and financial sector.
The honours recognised the achievements and contributions of leading personalities who have brought distinction to the country in their respective fields.
