Chandigarh: An under-construction two-storey building collapsed in Industrial Area, Phase II, Chandigarh, on Saturday afternoon following heavy rainfall, raising fears that several people remain trapped beneath the debris.
According to initial information, five people have been rescued so far, while rescue teams believe that more than a dozen people were inside the building when it collapsed.
Soon after the incident, teams from the Chandigarh Police, Fire Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other emergency services rushed to the spot and launched a large-scale rescue operation.
Considering the massive volume of debris and the seriousness of the situation, the Army has also been called in to assist with rescue and relief efforts.
Authorities are continuing search operations to locate those still feared trapped under the rubble. The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been confirmed, and further details are awaited.
