Vigilance Bureau nabs Private Person red handed accepting bribe of Rs. 7200

Punjab E News(PEN News): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended private person Baj Kumar resident of village Kotkapura district Faridkot red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 7200/-.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a transporter.

He informed that the complainant is engaged in the business of transport, in which he supply sand, gravel, soil, stone etc to different districts of Punjab. Last month, when the RTA office employees set up a check post at Bughipura Chowk, his truck was stopped by the said employees without any reason and Baj Kumar, identified himself as a special person of RTA.

In this regard, Baj Kumar told the complainant if he wants to avoid challans in future within the limits of Ferozepur zone, then he will have to pay a bribe per tipper per month. Otherwise, his trippers will be challaned in future.

He added that accused Baj Kumar asked the complainant to meet him at the RTA office in Ferozepur. But when he did not go for a few days, the said person called the complainant on WhatsApp and again demanded bribe money of Rs. 1200/- per vehicle per month. When the complainant asked to reduce the bribe money, accused Baj Kumar said that RTA Hardeep Singh will not take less money because he is already taking Rs. 300/- per district and will take only that amount.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB Flying Squad -1 SAS Nagar. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 7200/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.The relevant persons are being investigated and questioned, if the name of any officer/employee comes up during the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken against them.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station SAS Nagar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
