Returning from birthday party, Congress sarpanch murdered in Batala

Batala News: Baljit Singh (47), the sitting Congress sarpanch of Sadarang village near Batala, was stabbed to death with sharp-edged weapons. Batala police have arrested Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, a resident of village Sadarang, on charges of murder. The reason for the murder is said to be a personal rivalry over a land dispute.
Sukhwinder Kaur, wife of the deceased Baljit Singh, said in a statement to the police that her husband and their eight-year-old son had gone to someone’s birthday party in the village. Late on Monday night, when her son and husband were returning home from a party, some unidentified assailants attacked her husband with sharp-edged weapons and seriously injured him.
His son reached home and informed them about the attack. When she reached the spot, her husband was lying in a pool of blood. In a critical condition, her husband Baljit Singh was referred to Amritsar where doctors declared him brought dead at the hospital.
