VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS POLICE POST INCHARGE FOR ACCEPTING RS 15,000 BRIBE

Amritsar News: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday has nabbed Gurjit Singh, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), posted as In-charge Police Post, Court Complex, Amritsar red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

    Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Harjinder Singh, a resident of village Fatahpur, Amritsar district.

    He further informed that the said complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said accused has demanded Rs 50,000 for taking immediate action on a police complaint filed by him regarding a financial fraud amounting to Rs 40 lakhs. The complainant further added that the police personnel had already taken Rs 20,000 as a first instalment and demanding the balance amount of bribe.

    The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary inquiry about this complaint the VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed accepting the second installment of Rs 15,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

    He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station Amritsar range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
