After US, Canada bans TikTok on government devices over security risks

Toronto: The White House has given federal agencies 30 days to completely remove TikTok from all government equipment. At the same time, Canada has announced a ban on ‘TikTok’ in all mobile devices of the government. This decision has been taken amid growing security concerns about this video app of China.

The President of the Treasury Board, Mona Fortier announced the ban and said that effective February 28, 2023, the TikTok application will be removed from government-issued mobile devices. Users of these devices will also be blocked from downloading the application in the future.
Earlier, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget described the guidelines issued on Monday as an “important step toward addressing the risks being posed by the app to sensitive government data.”
Some agencies, including the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, have already banned it. The guidelines ask the remaining agencies of the federal government to remove it completely within 30 days. The White House does not already allow the use of ‘TikTok’ on its devices.
