New Delhi: Canada deported 3,323 Indian nationals in the first six months of 2026, putting the figure on course to surpass the highest annual total recorded in recent years, according to government data.
Data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) shows that 3,779 Indian nationals were deported during the whole of 2025. The 2026 figure has already reached nearly 88% of last year’s total in just six months.
India recorded the highest number of deportations from Canada during the first half of 2026, overtaking Mexico, whose 1,573 nationals were deported during the same period.
Canada has been tightening its immigration system and reducing the number of temporary residents, including international students and temporary foreign workers.
Indian nationals are generally removed from Canada in cases involving immigration violations, rejected asylum or refugee claims, overstaying visas and immigration-related fraud.
Mexico had remained the country with the highest number of deportations from Canada over the previous five years, while India ranked second during that period.
India had previously topped the list in 2020, when Canada deported 1,424 Indian nationals.
