Chandigarh: The Punjab government has ordered the promotion of five Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) (Officiating) as part of changes in the state police administration.
The orders were issued by the Principal Secretary, Punjab government, based on the recommendations of the Departmental Screening Committee, which met on June 9.
The officers promoted to the SP (Officiating) rank are:
Kamaljit Singh
Deepak Singh — seniority No. 339
Boota Singh — seniority No. 340
Gurinderjit Singh — seniority No. 349
Jagdish Raj — seniority No. 352
According to the government order, the officers will continue to draw the pay and allowances applicable to their existing ranks, subject to departmental rules and the next meeting of the promotion committee. They will also receive a special allowance of ₹200 per month for the officiating placement.
The order further states that if the placement of any senior officer is withheld because of pending departmental or criminal proceedings, the officer may be granted the promotion retrospectively from the date on which a junior officer was given the placement, once the proceedings are concluded.
15 DSPs promoted last month
The latest promotions come a month after the Punjab government promoted 15 DSPs to the rank of SP following recommendations of the Departmental Screening Committee.
Those promoted included Sukhammrit Singh Randhawa, Harsimrat Singh Chetra, Daljit Singh, Satinder Kumar, Tejinder Pal Singh, Sanjeev Goel, Kuldeep Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Karamvir Singh, Dalbir Singh, Nirvair Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, Manish Kumar and Mahesh Kumar.
The successive rounds of promotions are part of changes in the state police administration and the filling of higher-ranking positions.
