CM Mann recommends 10-day parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara on humanitarian grounds

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has recommended 10-day parole for jailed Jagtar Singh Hawara on humanitarian grounds, with the final decision now resting with the Punjab Governor.

Hawara has been in prison for nearly 29 years, and this is reportedly the first time that his parole has been recommended.

In a letter to the Governor, Mann cited the deteriorating health of Hawara’s elderly mother and urged that he be granted parole at the earliest.

Hawara has also approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking four weeks’ parole on the same grounds.

Various Sikh organisations have been demanding Hawara’s parole for a long time, particularly in view of his mother’s health.
