Chandigarh: Dr Gurpreet Kaur, wife of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, has expressed no objection to removing former Punjab and Haryana high court judge and Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO) chairman Justice Ranjit Singh from a defamation compensation suit.
Her lawyer, Sukhbir Singh, made the statement before a Chandigarh court on Tuesday.
Around a month ago, Justice Ranjit Singh had filed an application seeking ₹50,000 in compensation from Dr Gurpreet Kaur in connection with the case.
Her counsel told the court that Justice Ranjit Singh had clarified that the content broadcast by DD News anchor Bhawana Nair was incomplete and did not carry his full statement. He had no intention of defaming Dr Gurpreet Kaur, the lawyer said.
The counsel also stated that Dr Gurpreet Kaur had sent a legal notice to Justice Ranjit Singh on August 22, 2026, seeking clarification of his position, but had received no response.
As a result, she was unaware of his complete statement when she filed the suit and had not concealed any facts, the lawyer submitted. She learnt about the full statement only after filing the case.
The counsel further said Justice Ranjit Singh had not approached any authority seeking removal of the incomplete statement.
