New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered an FIR at Parliament Street police station following a complaint by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivek Bhagat, who alleged that he was subjected to caste-based humiliation and threats and obstructed in the discharge of his official duties during a protest on October 3.
According to the FIR, Bhagat, posted in the Connaught Place subdivision of New Delhi district, was on duty to maintain law and order during a demonstration against the Election Commission of India at Boota Singh roundabout when a journalist allegedly made casteist and derogatory remarks against him in public.
The complaint names three people as accused: Rosie, Gajender and an unidentified individual.
Bhagat stated in his complaint that he belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC) community. He alleged that he and his operator constable, Ravi Dahiya, overheard a journalist discussing his nameplate and caste identity. The journalist allegedly went on to make offensive comments about Bhagat’s caste and his appointment as an ACP, according to the complaint.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The allegations are under investigation. The registration of an FIR does not establish guilt.
