New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered two separate FIRs in connection with the INDIA bloc’s protest march towards the Supreme Court, alleging that the demonstration was held without permission and that protesters breached police barricades.
The cases have been registered at Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg police stations. According to police, a mini-truck was allegedly used to break through barricades during the march. The FIR registered at Tilak Marg relates to protesters who entered the Supreme Court premises.
The Tilak Marg case reportedly names Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, along with several other prominent INDIA bloc leaders. The allegations are part of the police investigation.
On Monday, thousands of INDIA bloc supporters marched from Connaught Place towards the Supreme Court, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls.
Despite heavy security arrangements, Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders travelled towards the court in a bus from the Barakhamba Road area. During the march near Mandi House, Gandhi and some other leaders climbed onto the roof of the bus and waved to supporters gathered along the streets.
Protesters raised slogans and waved flags as they demonstrated against the government. Congress leaders were joined by several other participants, including AISA activist Neha Bora.
