New Delhi: The name of Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will be included in Delhi’s final electoral roll after officials verified discrepancies in his voter details during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Sandhu, a resident of New Moti Bagh, is registered as a voter in the Delhi Cantonment assembly constituency. Officials said the former IAS officer was among those whose names had been flagged for a possible notice because of a discrepancy in the name recorded in the electoral roll.
Sandhu had reportedly entered his name as Dr SS Sandhu on the enumeration form, while his name in the voter list was recorded as Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
Amid the issue, the District Election Officer (DEO) said in a social media post that the details, facts and documents submitted by Sandhu had been duly verified.
“The voter entry related to Dr SS Sandhu, Election Commissioner of India, has been verified and kept for inclusion in the final electoral roll,” the DEO said. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be officially published on November 4, according to the Election Commission’s schedule.
Officials clarified that although Sandhu’s name had been marked for a possible notice, no notice was actually issued to him. The local Booth Level Officer (BLO) and Electoral Registration Officer examined the relevant documents and resolved the discrepancy in his name.
The DEO said notices are being issued to voters whose entries do not match the previous electoral roll or where logical discrepancies have been identified in their details.
Voters receiving such notices can submit their response and the required documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).
According to the DEO, the notices will be disposed of by October 29 following verification by BLOs and examination of the documents submitted by voters.
The DEO said the notices were issued in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Election Commission of India, allowing document-based verification by BLOs before cases are considered for disposal by the ERO.
