New Delhi: A 54-year-old guitarist and music teacher from Manipur, Chongtham Vikram Singh, was allegedly beaten to death after he objected to a disturbance outside his home in Delhi’s Kilokri village near Ashram.
According to police, Singh had objected to alleged hooting and loud noise by delivery workers and staff of a roadside eatery outside his house. When he came downstairs to ask them to stop, the accused allegedly attacked him and slapped him.
Singh was taken to Holy Family Hospital by his son, Yaiphaba, for treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has sparked outrage among members of the Manipuri community, social activists and political leaders, with several condemning the killing.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera criticised the Centre and Delhi government over the incident, alleging that a sense of impunity had been created by allowing violations of rules to go unchecked. He said such an environment could contribute to incidents of this nature.
