FOUR LINKED TO CROSS-BORDER SMUGGLING NETWORKS HELD WITH 10KG HEROIN, 10 PISTOLS

Amritsar News (Kuldeep Singh): In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive against cross-border smuggling networks as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has dismantled two separate illegal arms and narcotics supply networks with the arrest of four individuals and recovered 10 kg heroin and 10 illegal pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Friday.

Those arrested have been identified as Rajanpreet Singh, a resident of Galluwal; Vijay, a resident of Rajatal Colony in Gharinda; Parasdeep Singh alias Billa, a resident of Kamboa; and Gurmukh Singh alias Bodi, a resident of Kahangarh, Attari.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused are allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers and are involved in procuring illegal weapons and narcotics. Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete network and establish the backward and forward linkages, he said.

Sharing operational details, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Border Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that in the first operation, acting on specific information regarding illegal weapons supply, a police team from Police Station Gharinda intercepted and apprehended Rajanpreet Singh and Vijay, seizing 10 illegal pistols from their possession.

The IGP said that in the second operation, acting on actionable inputs about a cross-border narcotics network, teams from Police Station Gharinda nabbed Parasdeep Singh alias Billa and Gurmukh Singh alias Bodi and recovered 10 kg of heroin from their possession. Accused Parasdeep is a notorious drug smuggler and was running a drug cartel in the region, he said.
