Punjab Police inspector arrested in FBI-linked international extortion case

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have arrested Inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Tanda police station in Hoshiarpur, in connection with an international extortion case linked to an investigation by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to police sources, Nagra has been accused of being part of an international extortion network that allegedly targeted an Indian-origin family in the United States.

The FBI had named Nagra on February 7 as one of the alleged operators of the transnational extortion racket. US authorities have accused him of involvement in a $400,000 extortion case, alleging that he worked in coordination with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gangs to target Indian-origin families living in the United States.

Following reports of his alleged involvement in the FBI investigation, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Hoshiarpur, had immediately transferred Nagra to the Hoshiarpur Police Lines pending further action.

A senior Punjab Police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest and said further details would be shared later as the investigation is still underway.

The arrest marks a significant development in the cross-border investigation into organised crime and extortion activities allegedly involving members of Punjab-based criminal networks operating internationally.
