Qaumi Insaaf Morcha marches towards Punjab Governor’s House over release of Bandi Singhs

Chandigarh: The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha on Saturday began marching towards the Punjab Governor’s House, demanding the release of Bandi Singhs and parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara.

Members of the Morcha have gathered near YPS Chowk in Mohali on the route towards Chandigarh. It is yet to be decided which route the protesters will take to proceed further towards the Governor’s House.

Several Sikh leaders have reportedly been detained during the protest. Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann was also taken into custody by Chandigarh Police after he reached near the Governor’s House.

Security tightened

Chandigarh Police have strengthened security arrangements in view of the march, while additional police personnel have been deployed around the protest area.

Section 163 has been imposed in Mohali, with police keeping a close watch on the movement of protesters. The deployment and restrictions have also affected traffic in the area.

Meanwhile, Giani Harpreet Singh and Parminder Singh Dhindsa have also reached the protest site.

Simranjit Singh Mann was seen with a bandage on his head when he was detained near the Governor’s House. Police said he was taken into custody as part of the security arrangements.

The protest is focused primarily on the release of Bandi Singhs, including Jagtar Singh Hawara, and his demand for parole.
