New Delhi: The Congress is working on a strategy for Rahul Gandhi’s proposed bus yatra in Punjab, with his team taking charge of planning the programme.
A meeting was held at the Ashoka Hotel in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the proposed visit and the activities planned during the yatra. Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa attended the meeting.
Former chief minister and Congress Election Campaign Committee chairman Charanjit Singh Channi was not part of the meeting.
The date for Rahul Gandhi’s Punjab visit has not yet been finalised. Punjab Congress has submitted its proposed dates, route and programme to Rahul Gandhi’s team, which will now finalise the schedule according to his availability. The visit is likely to take place after September 10.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Baghel said the discussions focused on Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Punjab tour. He said the state unit had handed over the complete route and programme to Rahul Gandhi’s team and that the proposal had been accepted.
Three proposals prepared for Punjab tour
Punjab Congress has prepared three proposals for Rahul Gandhi’s visit, including one for a two-day bus yatra.
Under the proposed route, the yatra would begin from the Golden Temple in Amritsar and cover several districts across Punjab. On the first day, it is proposed to travel through Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Bathinda and other parts of the Malwa region.
On the second day, the yatra is proposed to pass through Ludhiana before concluding at Fatehgarh Sahib.
The final route and dates will be decided by Rahul Gandhi’s team based on his schedule.
