Ayodhya: The investigating officer probing the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya has completed the investigation into various aspects of the case, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Grover said on Saturday.
Grover said the investigation is required to be completed within 90 days and the chargesheet is expected to be filed in court by the end of next month.
Clarifying the role of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Grover said it is not conducting a separate investigation but is coordinating with the police as a high-level supervisory and advisory body. The four-member SIT is headed by Lucknow IGP Kiran S, who has five years of experience with the CBI.
The SSP said he was personally monitoring the investigation at the local level and providing guidance where required.
Eight accused arrested
According to temple sources, no prominent person has so far been brought within the ambit of legal action in connection with the alleged embezzlement of donations.
The SIT had earlier raised questions over the alleged role of former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust member Anil Mishra.
The case was registered at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station on June 25. According to the FIR, police arrested eight accused in connection with the alleged theft of donations. Those arrested include Tinu Yadav, said to be close to former temple trust general secretary Champat Rai, counting in-charge Subhash Srivastava, Ramshankar Mishra, Manish Yadav, Karunesh, Lavkush Mishra, Anukalp and Avinash Shukla.
Police took all eight accused on remand and questioned them as part of the investigation.
Four-member SIT formed
The Uttar Pradesh government had informed the Supreme Court on July 27 that it had constituted a four-member SIT headed by IGP Kiran S to investigate the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The investigation is now expected to culminate in the filing of a chargesheet by the end of next month.
