A day after meeting PM Modi, Sukhbir Badal seeks immediate implementation of women’s reservation bill

New Delhi: A day after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has extended his party’s support to the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Speaking after a meeting with senior party leaders on Saturday, Badal said the SAD had demanded the immediate implementation of the women’s reservation law across the country.

The development comes amid the Centre’s discussions with various political parties, including former allies, over the proposed legislation. According to The Tribune Group, the government has been holding consultations with political parties on the issue.

The bill links the implementation of women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies with the process of delimitation. It is currently awaiting parliamentary approval amid the requirement of a two-thirds majority.

Badal’s statement assumes political significance as it comes a day after his meeting with PM Modi, which has already triggered speculation about the possibility of renewed political coordination between the SAD and BJP ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
