SGPC to install Parvinder Jhotta’s portrait in Central Sikh Museum

Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami has paid tribute to anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta, saying the Sikh community would always remember his sacrifice and stressing the need to continue efforts to protect Punjab’s youth from drug abuse.

The SGPC has announced that a portrait of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta will be installed at the Central Sikh Museum in Amritsar.

The announcement comes amid tributes to Jhotta, who was killed in Mansa on October 13. He had been involved in efforts to oppose drug-related activities in Punjab.

Dhami made the announcement during a meeting with Jhotta’s father, Bhim Singh, on Saturday. He expressed condolences to the family and offered prayers for strength and resilience during the difficult period.

The meeting was attended by Baba Tek Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, SGPC executive member Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar, secretary Balwinder Singh Kahnewala, Satvir Singh and Harbhajan Singh Vakta.

Dhami announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each for four people injured in the attack. The amount would include ₹2.5 lakh towards medical expenses and ₹2.5 lakh as financial support for each injured person.

He also offered to arrange fixed deposits of ₹10 lakh each in the names of Jhotta’s two children, aged nine and six, and take responsibility for their upbringing.

However, Bhim Singh declined financial assistance for his family, saying that, by God’s grace, they were financially self-reliant. He said he had sought help only for those injured in the incident.
