22 dead as tourist boat capsizes in Kerala

New Delhi: At least 22 people drowned after a boat carrying over 25 people capsized in Kerala’s Malappuram district, police said on Sunday. The incident took place around 7 pm on Sunday at Tuval Teram tourist spot in Tannur. Regional Fire Range Officer Shiju KK said that 21 bodies have been recovered so far.

    The exact number of people sitting in the boat is yet to be ascertained. NDRF, fire and scuba diving teams are conducting search operations. Kerala Revenue Minister K Rajan said that the Navy team has also come forward to help. 
As soon as the incident was reported, many vehicles reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister Veena George called an emergency meeting of the state health department at midnight following the incident and directed officials to ensure best treatment to the injured. The Health Minister has directed to speed up the process of better treatment and post-mortem of the injured. The minister has also given strict instructions to start the post-mortem at 6 am on Monday.
