Farmers marching to Delhi, says ‘Ceasefire’ for today, will try again tomorrow

New Delhi: Farmers from Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab embarked on a ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on Tuesday. However, on their journey, the police fired tear gas shells at them near the Shambhu border.

Simultaneously, more than a dozen farmer leaders were detained at the Ghazipur border. Consequently, there was a significant traffic jam at Delhi’s Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders.

In response to the farmers’ protest, a wall has been erected near UP Gate between Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, which has been fortified. As a result, the NH9 road to Delhi is currently closed.

To prevent the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march from entering the national capital, tight security measures have been implemented at Delhi’s borders, including multi-layered barricades, concrete barriers, iron nails, and container walls.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal expressed, “Our demands are not new; they were commitments made by the government to us. Despite our repeated attempts to bring attention to these commitments, the government has yet to demonstrate any seriousness.”
