BJP leader booked for farmer’s death during protest against Preneet Kaur

Chandigarh: A case under section 304 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Harwinder Singh Harpalpur, a supporter of BJP candidate from Patiala, in connection with the death of farmer leader Surinderpal Singh Akdi during a protest by farmers at Sehra village in Ghanaur constituency during the election programme of BJP candidate from Patiala Preneet Kaur for the Lok Sabha elections.

This section is imposed when a person causes the death of someone but it is not considered an incident of murder.

Since this section is non-bailable, the accused has to go to jail and during this time if found guilty, the punishment can be up to ten years. A case has been registered at Police Station Kheri Gandaon on the statements of Resham Singh, nephew of the deceased farmer.
