Jalandhar bypolls: One faction in favour of Channi, another supports MP Chaudhary Santokh’s wife as candidate

Chandigarh: Ahead of the Lok Sabha by-election in Jalandhar there is infighting within Congress over candidature for the elections. A group of Congress is in favour of making former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi a candidate in the election. At the same time, the second group is constantly trying in favor of getting a ticket for Karamjit Kaur, wife of Santokh Chaudhary.

Mahendra KP is also seen in the contenders between these two. The Congress does not seem to be united in the struggle of these two groups.
Sources said that in favour of Charanjit Singh Channi, Jalandhar MLA Pragat Singh, Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli, Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and Rajendra Singh Beri are in favor of Charanjit Singh Channi.
According to sources, there is a preparation to mobilize in favor of Channi soon. It is being told that Chaudhary Santokh’s wife Karamjit Kaur has started coming to the people so that if the party gives a ticket, then there is no problem in the election. Chaudhary Santokh Chaudhary died of an attack during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
It is being told that the Congress victory in Doaba was due to Channi.
In the 2022 assembly elections, Congress got an edge in Doaba. The reason for this is said to be Charanjit Channi’s hold in the SC brotherhood. Many Dalit religious leaders and leaders in Jalandhar also have good relations with Channi.
