Order banning entry of girls in Jama Masjid revoked

New Delhi: The Jama Masjid administration in the national capital today withdrew an order banning the entry of single girls into the mosque. Earlier, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari had banned the entry of girls alone and in groups into the mosque.

Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had requested the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid to withdraw the order. After this, the Shahi Imam withdrew his decision. The decision had prompted the National Commission for Women (NCW) to take suo motu action and drew sharp criticism from activists associated with women’s rights organisations.
