Parliamentary committee likely to ask government to criminalise adultery again

New Delhi: The parliamentary panel is likely to recommend adultery legislation as part of changes to colonial-era criminal laws and criminalising consensual sex between men, women and trans members.
Sources said the panel is studying three bills to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act — the Indian Code of Justice, the Indian Civil Defence Code and the Indian Evidence Act — respectively.
The bills, introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, were referred to the Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by BJP MP Brij Lal, for further scrutiny in August with a deadline of three months.
