Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Nyay yatra’ denied entry to Guwahati, activists break barricades

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leader, is undertaking a ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in line with the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra.’ The Himanta Sarma-led government in Assam has declined permission for Rahul Gandhi’s yatra to traverse the main roads in Guwahati.

The yatra is re-entering Assam today after completing the Meghalaya phase. The denial of permission coincides with a heated exchange between the Assam chief minister and Congress leaders, who assert that CM Bharat Jodo is impeding the Nyay Yatra.

The administration cites concerns about potential traffic jams on a working day and suggests rerouting the rally to National Highway 27, serving as a ring road around the city, instead of the main roads.

Earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi declared his intention to visit the birthplace of 15th-century social reformer Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankardev. Following this announcement, Sarma urged him to postpone the visit until after the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya.
