10,000 vehicles carrying EVMs to be fitted with GPS trackers in Punjab

Chandigarh: The State Election Commission has commenced preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. Initially, significant measures have been taken to safeguard the EVMs and VVPAT machines utilized in the elections.

This time, GPS systems will be installed in 10,000 vehicles for the Lok Sabha elections. These GPS-equipped vehicles will transport EVMs and VVPAT machines from the strong rooms to each polling station under the 13 Lok Sabha seats of the state. This measure aims to prevent tampering, theft, or damage to these machines during the election process.

A control room will be established for the monitoring of the 10,000 GPS-equipped vehicles. These vehicles will be tracked through the control room, and a web-based software will be developed for public access to monitor their movements and the transportation of EVMs and VVPAT machines.

With GPS integration, security personnel will promptly respond if any vehicle deviates from its designated route or loses direction while transporting EVMs and VVPAT machines to or from the polling stations.
