Excise and Taxation Department: Auction resumes to sell 18 liquor vends in Chandigarh

Chandigarh News: Once upon a time, many businessmen used to bid for the liquor vends to in Chandigarh. The licence to run a contract for just one year was also sold for more than Rs 10 crore.  But now the situation is such that there are 5 months left in the current financial year, but the Excise and Taxation Department of the administration has still not been able to sell 18 out of the total 95 vends. Now the process has been started to sell these vends again.
The Excise and Taxation Department has started online bidding for these remaining 18 contracts from Tuesday, which will run till 11 am on October 27. After this, if there is a bid for the contracts, they will be opened.
At the same time, if no contract is sold this time, then the administration will further distribute the fixed liquor quota of all these contracts equally in the rest of the liquor contracts, so that they can sell this quota by 31 March 2024.
However, according to traders, even if the administration does not sell these remaining vends, their quota will not be of any benefit, because the sales are low. In such a situation, it will also be a loss-making decision for businessmen.
So far, the department has suffered losses in the form of license fees due to non-sale of these contracts.
