New Delhi: Delhi Police cleared the protest site at Jantar Mantar on Monday after clashes erupted during a march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the alleged NEET paper leak and demands for education reforms.
Police removed the protest stage and tents after dispersing demonstrators from Jantar Mantar. Protesters were also pushed back from parts of Connaught Place as security forces moved to restore order.
According to reports, several protesters were injured during clashes after police used batons to stop demonstrators from advancing towards Parliament.
The situation escalated around 10 a.m. when protesters allegedly breached barricades and attempted to march towards Parliament. Security personnel stopped the march, and authorities tightened security around the Parliament complex, including closing the main entrance as a precaution.
Police also used tear gas to disperse the crowd after some protesters attempted to move closer to the high-security zone. Images from the scene later showed clashes between protesters and police during the day-long unrest.
Earlier, CJP had claimed that its founder Abhijeet Dipke had been taken into custody. However, both Delhi Police and the organisation later clarified that he had not been detained.
Meanwhile, CJP representatives met BJP president J.P. Nadda during the day. According to the organisation, Nadda assured them that no further police action would be taken at Jantar Mantar or its surrounding areas.
