Raikot (Ludhiana): Armed men posing as patients allegedly held an Ayurvedic doctor hostage at gunpoint and robbed him of around ₹1.5 lakh in cash at his clinic in Raikot, Ludhiana district, on Thursday morning.
According to Dr Vijay Kumar Chopra, the incident took place at his Chopra Ayurvedic Centre on Heera Singh Road at around 7 am. He said a man arrived at the clinic seeking a glucose drip. The same person had visited the clinic a day earlier to collect medicine.
Dr Chopra alleged that shortly after he entered the clinic, five more men entered the premises, overpowered him and dragged him into a room. He said the assailants tried to tape his mouth shut while one of them pointed a pistol at him and demanded cash.
The doctor said one of the accused took around ₹1.5 lakh from a drawer inside the clinic and also stole his wallet. He further alleged that the accused entered his residence, assaulted his wife and son before fleeing. The suspects reportedly left their motorcycle behind while escaping.
After receiving information about the incident, Station House Officer (SHO) Parminder Singh of City Police Station, Raikot, reached the spot and began an investigation.
Police said CCTV footage from the clinic and nearby areas is being examined and that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
