No power cuts in Punjab from next summer, says Arvind Kejriwal

Punjab E News: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that major reforms are being undertaken in Punjab’s power sector and assured that there will be no power cuts from next summer.

Kejriwal made the announcement while addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a Power Transmission and Distribution Unit. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also present at the event.

He said that 90 per cent of households in Punjab are receiving free electricity, while farmers are currently getting at least eight hours of uninterrupted power supply for irrigation — which will soon be extended to a full day.

“We have now moved on to the next step to ensure 24×7 power supply,” Kejriwal said, adding that large-scale infrastructure upgrades are underway, including laying of 25,000 km of new electric wires, installation of 8,000 transformers, and 77 new power substations.

“Infrastructure upgradation is being done on a large scale. The entire system will be modern, and there will be no power cuts in Punjab next summer,” he said.

The AAP leader also accused the previous Congress and SAD-BJP governments of neglecting the state’s power transmission and distribution network for years.
