New Delhi: A violent clash broke out at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Moers in the city of Moers, leaving at least 11 people injured and triggering a large-scale police operation.
According to media reports, over 40 individuals were involved in the clash, during which pepper spray, knives and kirpans were allegedly used. Authorities also responded to reports of possible firearms being involved.
German police have not officially confirmed the exact cause of the violence, but eyewitnesses suggested that the clash stemmed from an ongoing dispute over the gurdwara’s management and finances. The conflict is believed to be linked to tensions between former and current committee members regarding control and influence.
Following reports of gunfire, special forces including the SEK unit from Dusseldorf were deployed. Around 100 officers surrounded the premises, while a helicopter provided aerial support. The gurdwara complex was sealed, and a search operation was carried out amid fears of armed suspects inside.
No gunman was found during the raid, but at least one suspect has been detained. Initial evidence, including recovered shell casings, suggests the possible use of a blank-firing weapon.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and identify those responsible for the incident.
