Birmingham: India registered a comprehensive 64-run victory over Pakistan in a Women’s T20 World Cup match on Sunday, producing an all-round performance with both bat and ball.
Chasing a target of 171 runs, Pakistan struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 106 in 17 overs. Opener Muneeba Ali was the top scorer for Pakistan with 41 runs, but her effort was not enough to keep her team in the contest.
Deepti Sharma emerged as the standout performer for India, claiming five wickets while conceding just 10 runs. Her spell dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up and played a crucial role in sealing the victory. Sree Charani picked up three wickets, while Shafali Verma chipped in with one dismissal.
Earlier, India posted 170 for six in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat. Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a fluent 68-run knock, helping India recover from an early setback.
India lost Shafali Verma for six and Jemimah Rodrigues for one during the opening stages of the innings. Mandhana then steadied the innings with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who contributed 36 runs. Richa Ghosh added valuable runs in the middle order with a quick-fire 34, while India also benefited from 11 extra runs.
At the end of the innings, Deepti Sharma remained unbeaten on 12, while Shreyanka Patil finished not out on one. India’s total proved more than enough as the bowlers dominated proceedings to secure a convincing win over their arch-rivals.
