New Delhi: Heavy monsoon rain and strong winds disrupted flight operations in Delhi and Mumbai on Sunday, forcing several aircraft to be diverted and causing delays for thousands of passengers.
The worst impact was seen on the busy Delhi–Mumbai air corridor, one of the country’s busiest aviation routes.
At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, a total of 15 flights were affected, including 10 domestic and five international services. Due to poor visibility and adverse weather conditions, the affected flights were diverted to Jaipur and Lucknow airports.
Flight operations were also disrupted at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where runway operations were temporarily suspended for about an hour because of the adverse weather.
The temporary closure affected aircraft movements, with 13 flights from various airlines diverted to nearby airports instead of landing in Mumbai.
The weather-related disruptions led to delays and inconvenience for thousands of passengers, while airport authorities and airlines continued to monitor conditions before restoring normal operations.
