New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced India’s ODI squad for the upcoming tour of England, with Shubman Gill set to lead the side and Shreyas Iyer appointed as vice-captain.
Senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also been included in the squad for the three-match ODI series, which is being viewed as an important step in India’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The England tour will feature five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals. The T20 squad had already been announced earlier, with Shreyas Iyer leading the shortest-format side.
Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a century in the third ODI against Afghanistan, has not been selected in the ODI squad. Jaiswal was drafted into the team as a replacement for the injured Virat Kohli during the Afghanistan series.
Meanwhile, spinner Varun Chakravarthy is set to miss the T20 series against Ireland due to injury. Although he was named in the squads for both the Ireland and England assignments, he is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.
According to the BCCI, Chakravarthy’s participation in the England series will depend on his fitness progress, with a final decision to be taken following medical assessment.
