London: England completed a dominant 4-0 series sweep over India with a commanding 56-run victory in the fifth and final T20 International, ending India’s reign as the No. 1-ranked ICC T20I team after 1,601 days.
England piled up a massive 257/3 after explosive knocks from Jos Buttler, who smashed 131 off 64 balls, and captain Harry Brook, who remained unbeaten on 95 off 45 deliveries.
Chasing a daunting target, India could only manage 201/8 despite half-centuries from Ishan Kishan (56 off 35 balls) and Tilak Varma (53 off 25 balls). Their efforts reduced the margin of defeat but were never enough to threaten England’s total.
The victory not only sealed a comprehensive series triumph for England but also propelled the hosts to the No. 1 position in the ICC T20I rankings, replacing India at the top.
The defeat marked India’s sixth loss under new captain Shreyas Iyer, increasing pressure on the side after a disappointing series. Reports indicate that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will review the team’s poor performances following the heavy defeat.
